-True bright red, officially introduced in 1938 per Luftwaffe directive L.Dv. 521.
-The bright red color used for the German flag on airplanes in the late 1930s.
RLM 23 Red was used as the marking color for Luftwaffe aircraft fire extinguisher lines.
-From 1936, RLM 23 Red was used for color tactical markings on aircraft of JG 132. In 1938, JG 132 was reformed into I. Gruppe JG 331.
-RLM 23 Rot was also used for identification and markings, emblems, screws, etc. on WW2 Luftwaffe aircraft.
-Red RLM 23 was used as the identification color for 2, 5 and 8 states of the Geswader fighter and 2, 5, 8, 11 and 14 states of the Geswader bomber respectively.
- The red color of the stripes of Reich Defense (Reichsverteidigung) on the fuselage of Luftwaffe fighters in 1944. The fuselage stripes, painted entirely in RLM 23 red, indicated that the aircraft belonged to JG 1 "Oesau". JG 7 Novotny aircraft were given RLM 23 and RLM 24 Dunkelblau tail stripes. The Reich Defense Stripes consisted of RLM 23 and RLM 27 Gelb, which were used to mark JG 301 "Wilde Sau" aircraft. Red -RLM 23 and RLM 21 Weiß fuselage stripes were carried by JG 52 fighters. JG 6 "Horst Wessel" carried red-white-red stripes of equal width RLM 23/RLM 21/RLM 23. Checkered fuselage stripes RLM 23 Rot and RLM 22 Schwarz were used for marking KG(J) 6 aircraft
