Between 1935 and 1939, additional divisions were formed, equipped primarily with Pz.Kpfw. I, II, III, and IV tanks. At that time, a standard armored division consisted of a tank brigade (comprising two armored regiments), a motorized infantry brigade, and support units—including reconnaissance, artillery, anti-aircraft, and engineer elements. Its authorized strength was approximately 300 tanks. It is also worth noting that German armored forces (*Panzerwaffe*) were trained and prepared to implement the *Blitzkrieg* doctrine, rather than—as was the case in many armies of the era—simply supporting infantry operations.
