Chipping solution Chip effect Chipping Medium 17 ml GSW 1889 What is a chipping environment? Chip medium, also known as chip fluid, is a specialty product used in the world of scale modeling and miniature painting. It is valid for brushes and airbrushes and is designed to help model enthusiasts create realistic weather effects on large-scale models such as model airplanes, tanks, cars or dioramas. It works by changing the adhesive properties of the paint layers, allowing the top layer to easily chip or peel away to reveal the lower layers, simulating the wear and tear that real objects experience. How to use the fluid? Effective use of chipping solutions in your scale models or miniature painting projects requires a special process. Here's a step-by-step guide to creating realistic weathering effects: Base coat: First, a base coat is applied to the surface of the model. This serves as a base and represents the main color or material. Application: then applied to the base coat. This tool creates a barrier between the base coat and subsequent layers of acrylic paint, changing their adhesion properties. This makes it easier to remove or chip off the top layer. Topcoat: After drying, a topcoat of a different color or shade is applied over the base coat. This is the outer layer of paint on the model. Chip effect: As the topcoat dries, modelers use various tools such as brushes, sponges, toothpicks or even fingertips, often wet with water, to gently remove or chip off areas of the topcoat. This effect allows the top layer to peel off more easily, revealing the base coat underneath. This process creates a convincing weathering effect, making the model appear weathered, aged, or battle-worn. It is a valuable tool for achieving realism in large-scale modeling and miniature painting with model paints. This allows modelers to simulate the effects of time, exposure to the elements and wear and tear, resulting in a detailed and realistic representation of the objects they are recreating in miniature form.
