AEC Matador and 5.5 inch Gun Airfix 01314V 1/76 American Truck
The AEC Matador is a British military truck and artillery tractor of the Second World War and the Cold War. Production of this car began in 1938 and continued until the early 1950s. During his time, more than 10,000 copies of this successful car were produced. The vehicle was about 6.3 meters long, about 2.4 meters wide, and up to 2.9 meters high. The curb weight of the car was 7.75 tons. Propulsion was provided by a single 95 hp AEC engine. The maximum speed reached 48 km/h.
The Matador machine was developed by the Associated Equipment Company Limited (abbreviated as AEC) for the needs of the British armed forces. To reduce R&D, the new vehicle's design used many components already used in trucks produced for the civilian market. During World War II, the AEC Matador was used primarily as an artillery tractor for towing, among other things: 25-pounder howitzers or 5.5-inch (140 mm) guns and 3.7-inch (94 mm) anti-aircraft guns. The AEC Dorchester machine was also created on the basis of the presented machine, which was used mainly as a command machine. Interestingly, during the hostilities in North Africa, the wheeled Deacon tank destroyer was developed on the AEC Matador chassis. The lion's share of the AEC Matadors produced went to the British Army, but several hundred were also used by the Royal Air Force.
