Chevrolet Bel Air (ʃəvroleː bɛl'ɛːə) is an American full-size car produced by the Chevrolet division of the General Motors Corporation from 1949 to 1975 (in Canada, cars under this designation were sold up to and including the 1981 model year). Named after the prestigious area of Los Angeles, California.
From 1950 to 1952, the name Bel Air was used to denote the Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe Hardtop model, which was not a stand-alone model. By 1959, the Bel Air was Chevrolet's most expensive and well-equipped model, followed by the 150, 210 and Biscayne models. In 1958, the Chevrolet Bel Air Impala configuration appears, which since 1959 has been separated into a separate model a step higher than the Bel Air. In 1965, the Chevrolet Impala Caprice appeared, a model of an even higher price range, and the Bel Air was reduced to the position of a lower-level model in the full-size Chevrolet line. Even lower was only the Chevrolet Biscayne model, mainly used in taxis (the Bel Air was also popular with taxi companies in those years). Chevrolet Beauville station wagons were also created on the basis of the Bel Air, replaced in 1957 by the Townsman (4-door) and Nomad (2-door) models.
