Chevrolet Camaro is a cult American sports car, a pony car produced by the Chevrolet division of the General Motors Corporation. Cars of the second generation were produced from February 1970 to August 1981, in total almost two million copies were produced. The name Camaro is derived from the French camarade - friend, buddy.
Due to the long design process [14] and problems with production preparation [15], the second-generation Camaro went on sale only in February 1970, which is why it is sometimes called a 1970½ model year (m. R.) car [K. 3]. Only closed two-door four-seater coupes were produced, there were no convertibles.
The car became a little longer, lower and wider, but the wheelbase remained the same as on the first generation models. The appearance of the new Camaro was unusual for American cars of that time, it rather resembled European sports cars.
A feature of the Camaro has always been a wide selection of installed power units. The cars of the second generation from the very beginning of production had seven different engines, which were combined with four types of gearboxes. Under the influence of increasingly strict requirements for limiting emissions and the oil crisis, the number of engines was reduced to three in the 1975-1979 model years, but starting from 1980, their range was updated and expanded.
During the 12 years of production, the appearance of the car was significantly changed in 1974 and 1977, so the chronology of its development is usually divided into three periods: 1970-1973, 1974-1976 and 1978-1981 model years.
