Tupolev-144 The Tu-144 became the world's first supersonic passenger plane. It was designed by A.N. Tupolev Design Bureau. The first flight of the prototype took place on December 31, 1968 (two months earlier than the British-French Concorde). Serial production began in 1971. A total of 9 Tu-144 aircraft with NK-144A engines were built until 1977, which could carry 150 passengers to a range of up to 4,150 km. The cruising speed was about 2340 km/h. Two aircraft (SSSR-77109 and SSSR-77110) made regular flights on the Moscow - Alma-Ata route from November 1, 1977 to June 1, 1978.
