Prefab model 1/35 US-West German prototype MBT-70 (Kpz. 70) Black Label Dragon D3550 MBT-70 (another designation: KPz 70) is an American-West German prototype of the main battle tank of the Cold War period. In total, 14 prototypes of this car were built in the 1960s. The car in its original version was never put into production. In the German version, the drive was provided by one Daimler-Benz/MTU MB 873 Ka500 1500 hp engine. and in the American version - a Continental AVCR V12 engine with a capacity of 1470 hp. The main armament was to consist of one 120-mm tank gun or 152-mm artillery installation, one 20-mm gun and a 7.62-mm machine gun. The MBT-70/KPz 70 was developed by a joint venture of the US and German defense companies, with the full approval of the armed forces of both countries, as a new, highly developed MBT for the US Army and the Bundeswehr, intended to replace the M60 and Leopard 1. Many innovations: its suspension was hydropneumatic , which provided very good maneuverability in field conditions, the armor was double-layered and provided a high degree of protection against cumulative shells. In addition, the entire crew was transferred to the car, which made it possible to lower its silhouette and optimize the inclination of the armored personnel carriers. However, a significant excess of the initially estimated costs led to the fact that in 1969 Germany withdrew from the project, and in 1971 the entire project was finally abandoned. However, many of the experiments and conceptual solutions embedded in the MBT-70/KPz 70 were used in the large tanks of the 3rd generation: the M1 Abrams and the Leopard 2.
