17 cm Kanone 18 in Mörserlafette (abbreviated: 17 cm K 18 in MrsLaf) is a German 170 mm heavy towed gun of World War II. Serial production of this rifle began in 1941, as a result of which about 340 copies were produced. The initial velocity of the explosive projectile from this gun was up to 925 m/s, the maximum firing range was about 29,500 meters. The 17 cm Kanone 18 gun was developed for the needs of the German armed forces, and the main goal of its development was to create a gun with the greatest possible range and accuracy, intended for counterfire. It is also worth adding that the new gun was supposed to complement the line of 21 cm Mörser 18 howitzers. In addition, both guns used the same muzzle and undercarriage, which made them very similar to each other. Paradoxically, the 17-cm Kanone 18 gun turned out to be a gun with a greater combat value than the 21-cm Mörser 18 howitzer - it had a significantly longer firing range, only a slightly lower destructive power of the projectile. Eventually, production of the 21 cm Mörser 18 was discontinued in favor of the 17 cm Kanone 18.
