Model T 1917 American sanitary car of World War 1 One of the most numerous and famous cars in world history was the Model T produced by the Ford Motor Company. In 1917, it was an ambulance base. Its light weight made it suitable for use on muddy and shell-strewn roads in forward combat areas. By November 1918, 4,362 Model T ambulances had been sent overseas. It was also the most common ambulance used by the Allies during the war.
