Model T 1917 sanitary (early) American sanitary service car 1SV One of the most numerous and famous cars in world history was the Model T produced by the Ford Motor Company. In 1917, it became an ambulance base. Its light weight made it suitable for use on muddy and shell-strewn roads in forward combat areas. Model T ambulances, built in early 1917, were sent to France for the American Ambulance Field Service. They were also the most common ambulance used by the Allies during the war.
