Assembled model 1/35 self-propelled artillery Sturmpanzer IV Brummbar Sd.Kfz 166 III Airfix A1376 Sturmpanzer IV Brummbar (medium version) The Sturmpanzer IV Brummbars, often referred to as Brummbär, which roughly translates to grunting or bad bear, was built on the chassis of the successful and reliable mass-produced Panzer IV. This particular tank would later see significant action throughout the Soviet Union as well as Poland, Italy and even the Battle of Normandy. The Sturmpanzer IV is often referred to as the Brummbär, which roughly translates to "grumbling" or "angry bear", but this is believed to have been an Allied vehicle name rather than actually used by the Germans - they simply referred to the assault tank as the Stupa 43, a direct reference to the gun , which the machine used. The Sturmpanzer served as part of 4 amphibious assault battalions, with Sturmpanzer-Abteilung 216 being the first to see combat during Operation Zitadelle and the heavy armored battle on the Kursk Salient. These vehicles later saw significant action throughout the Soviet Union, as well as in Poland, Italy and the Battle of Normandy, although, as was the case with most German armored vehicles in the latter stages of the war, About 306 Sturmpanzer IVs were built, and only three or four distinctive armored fighting vehicles survive in various museums to this day.
