BT tanks were a series of Soviet light tanks produced in large numbers between 1932 and 1941. They were lightly armored, but fairly well armed for their time, and had the best mobility of any modern tank. BT tanks were known by the nickname Betka from the abbreviation, or its diminutive Betushka. The successor to BT tanks will be the famous T-34 medium tank, introduced in 1940, which will replace all Soviet high-speed tanks, baby tanks and medium tanks in service. The first prototypes were built in 1931, and a year later serial production began, which lasted until 1933. About 620 machines of this type were produced during the course. The drive was provided by one M-5-400 engine with a capacity of 340 hp. The length of the cart was 5.35 meters, and the width was 2.23 meters. Armament consisted of either two 7.62-mm DT machine guns, or a 37-mm gun and one machine gun. The BT-2 was developed on the basis of Walter Christie wheeled tracked machines imported from the USA in 1930. They were distinguished by the ability to move both on wheels, which provided them with a high cruising speed on the road, and on tracks - which in turn meant that they had good off-road properties. After field tests in the USSR, Christie's machines were put into mass production under the designation BT-2, but the tower, the construction of the supporting wheel, the equipment and the layout of the fighting compartment were changed. During the short-term production, the BT-2 was installed in two variants of armament: with two machine guns, a cannon and a machine gun. It became the basis for the development of BT-5 and BT-7 machines, the total circulation of which exceeded 6,000 units.
