About 16,000 cars were equipped with these body variants, and they had the longest service life of all Unimog S series trucks. The vast majority of such cars were used as radio communication vehicles. They were easily distinguished by their characteristic hatches, antenna sockets on the roof and a large folding antenna on the rear wall of the body, which was manually unfolded for operation and reached a height of 6 meters in the unfolded position. The internal equipment included various radios such as the EM 25, SEM 25 or SEM 25. The color of the radios was standard for the Bundeswehr, initially the standard olive RAL 6014 color, which was gradually replaced by a three-color camouflage color variant in the 1980s. The car was popular in the Bundeswehr and was used by various units until the end of the 1990s.
