On the morning of December 7, 1941, all was quiet and the sun was shining in Pearl Harbor. Arizona had just returned from fleet maneuvers and was anchored with other battleships along the shores of Ford Island. Most of the crew had breakfast. The cannon fire and the roar of the bombs broke the silence, and when the sailors rushed to the deck, they realized that their ship was under fire. In a terribly scary moment, "Arizona" was hit by a torpedo in the left side, a large bomb in the "middel", and an armor-piercing bomb in the tank. 1100 sailors died. To honor the memory of the people from Arizona, a simple memorial plaque was placed above the ship and a flagpole was erected.
