[The Masterpiece Heavy Bomber That Won] The Avro Lancaster was a heavy bomber that represented the British Army during World War II. In addition to the Mk.I, which was powered by a British-built engine, the Mk.III, which was powered by an American-built Packard Merlin engine, was also developed. In the second half of the war it continued to fly as the main night bombing force in Germany, flying a total of 156,000 sorties and dropping 600,000 tons of bombs by the end of the war, contributing to the Allied victory and being counted among Britain's masterpieces of the war along with the Spitfire and Mosquito.
