"Storm in the Desert"
American OV-10A and OV-10D+ aircraft, 1991 On August 2, 1990, Iraq launched an invasion of Kuwait. In response, an operation called Desert Storm was developed and conducted by the armed forces of a multinational coalition. The beginning of the operation, which began on January 17, 1991, was the massive air and missile strikes of the allied forces. The US Marine Corps took part in the ground phase of the operation, whose aviation was armed with OV-10 Bronco aircraft of various modifications. These aircraft were based in Saudi Arabia, and as part of the 3rd Marine Air Wing, performed the functions of guidance, targeting and communication support. OV-10 Bronco found the firing positions of the Iraqi forces, which were later trained by American attack aircraft and naval artillery. They also supported Marine attacks. This operation marked the last episode of combat use of the OV-10 Bronco aircraft in the US Marine Corps aviation, and in 1994 they were finally withdrawn from its combat composition. However, the operation of various modifications of these aircraft continued in other countries of the world.
