US Navy Cessna O-2A In 1966, the United States Air Force (USAF) commissioned Cessna to create a military version of the Skymaster. As with the civilian version, the Skymaster was an inexpensive twin-engine piston aircraft with one engine in the nose of the aircraft and the other in the rear of the fuselage. The US Air Force received the O-2 Skymaster in March 1967. By 1970, a total of 532 O-2s were produced for the US Air Force in two variants. Six former US Air Force O-2A gliders were transferred to the US. By the Navy in 1983 for use as range controllers with Squadron 122 (VA-122), a Pacific Fleet replacement squadron for the A-7 Corsair II at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California. They were transferred to VFA-125, Nevada.
