Gotha Go 244B-2
German transport aircraft of WWII Difficulties arising from the use of cargo gliders and the shortage of aircraft to tow them led to the creation of a motorized version of the Go 242 glider, the Go 244 transport aircraft. These medium transport aircraft were converted Gotha Go 242 gliders of various modifications. Aircraft engines were installed in front of the tail beams of gliders, fuel tanks were mounted inside the aircraft, and equipment and instruments necessary for flight were installed in the cockpit. The trophy French Gnome-Rhone 14M engines were most often used as aircraft engines. Defensive armament consisted of 7.9 mm MG 15 or MG 81Z machine guns. The Go 244B-2 modification was created on the basis of the Go 242B-2 airframe, it, like the airframe, was distinguished by the original chassis with oil shock absorbers. Go 244 aircraft were in service with several Luftwaffe transport squadrons based in Greece. Later, these aircraft were used in flight schools and training centers.
