Hs 126A-1 with bomb rack The main aircraft of close reconnaissance and correction of artillery fire of the German Luftwaffe at the initial stage of the Second World War was the Henschel Hs 126. THs 126 was developed by Dipl. Eng. O. Nikolay from Henschel Flugzeugwerke. The first prototype, called the Hs 126V1, made its first flight in early 1937. The aircraft had excellent slow airspeed and short field characteristics. Seven aircraft of the Hs 126A-1 modification with the BMW 132Dc engine were transferred to the reconnaissance squadron A/88 of the Condor German Legion in Spain in 1938. They had bomb racks for 250 kilogram bombs.
