Mustang R-51S
The legendary P-51 Mustang was one of the best fighters of the Second World War. This aircraft was developed by the North American Corporation on the order of the British Air Force. The prototype NA-73X made its first flight on October 26, 1940. In Great Britain, the plane was named Mustang. The USAAF was also interested in the new fighter and designated it P-51. The last modification with an Allison engine - P-51A - was built in 1942. The plane had high speed and a long flight range, but its rate of climb and practical ceiling were insufficient. P-51A were in combat service in India and China in the middle of 1943. The B-51B modification was built in May 1943. It was distinguished by the installation of a powerful and high-altitude PackardMdvigatel erlin. The Mustang aircraft with this engine became one of the fastest fighters in the world. It had a huge range, was well armed and armored. Mustangs produced by the Dallas plant were meant as P-51S. Aircraft delivered on Lend-Lease by the British Air Force were designated Mustang Mk.III. A bubble dome named "Malcolm Hood" was installed on them. This made it possible to improve the view from the cabin.
