Tempest Mk.V Series 2 Weekend edition kit of British WWII fighter aircraft Tempest Mk.V in 1/48 scale. Keith offers aircraft manufactured within Series 2 and service in the RAF during and after the end of World War II. - plastic parts: E The Hawker Typhoon did not prove itself very well as a fighter, but later served as a bomber, especially when it was equipped with rocket launchers. The high-altitude performance and rate of climb were unsatisfactory, and in 1941 there was an attempt to counteract this by using a wing with a thinner profile and an elliptical outline. The engine radiator was moved from under the engine itself to the wing root edges, and the Napier Saber C.107C engine was chosen as the power source. Since the new wing had a smaller capacity, it became necessary to install additional fuel tanks in the fuselage of the aircraft. The changes made were so great that at the beginning of 1942 the aircraft was named Hawker Tempest. The prototype Tempest took to the air in February 1943 and soon developed a speed of 750 km/h at an altitude of 7,470 meters. Hawker Tempest aircraft began service in RAF colors in April 1944. The wing that they are armed with took part in the preparation of the invasion of Normandy. This was hindered by the first Fau-1 attack, which took place on June 13. The storms were directed to combat this new threat. The success achieved can best be judged by the number of bombs shot down. From June 1944 to March 1945, 481 kills were registered on account of Hawker Tempest machines. Until the end of the war, the machines were used in Europe to support the ground forces. 20 downed German Messerschmitt Me-262 fighters deserve special attention. Throughout the war, the Hawker Tempest served in only three squadrons of the RAF: 3, 486 and 56. The only serially produced version in the period 1943-1945 was the Mk.V model, interestingly, two other versions (Mk.II and Mk. VI) entered production after 1945 and served until 1951. Technical data: length: 10.26m, wingspan: 12.49m, height: 4.9m, maximum speed: 695km/h, rate of climb: 23.9m/s, maximum range: 1190km, maximum ceiling 11125m permanent - 4 20mm Hispano Mk. II guns, suspension - up to 454 kg of bombs or 8 RP-3 rockets.
