The Type 23 (also known as the Duke class) is the name of a class of modern British guided-missile frigates that have entered service since 1990. A total of 16 units of this type were created. The total length of this type of ship is 133 meters, the overall width is 16.1 meters, and the total displacement is approximately 4,900 tons. The maximum speed is about 28-30 knots. Onboard armament includes: one Sea Wolf 32-rail rocket launcher, two Harpoon quad rocket launchers, one 113 mm gun and two 30 mm guns. The block can be based on one airborne helicopter, such as the Agusta-Westland Merlin HM2. The Type 23 frigates were originally designed as specialized anti-submarine ships (ASVs), but due to the experience of the Falklands War in 1982, their onboard armament was greatly expanded to include a 114 mm gun and Harpoon missiles. Elements of stealth technology were used in the design of units, especially those entering service later. In 2005-2006 in Great Britain it was decided to recall three units of this type and sell them to Chile.
