USS New Orleans (CA-32) is an American heavy cruiser, laid down in 1931, launched in April 1933, and commissioned into the United States Navy in 1934. The total length of the ship was 179 m, the width was 18.8 m, and the standard displacement - at the time of launching - was 10,100 tons. The maximum speed reached 32.7 knots. The main armament at the time of launch consisted of 9,203-mm caliber guns in three towers, three guns in each, and auxiliary — mainly 8,127-mm caliber guns. USS New Orleans (CA-32) was the flagship of the cruiser class of the same name. The New Orleans (originally Astoria) class ships were built to meet the tonnage limit of the Washington Treaty, but were a decisive step forward over earlier classes of American cruisers. First of all, the armor and general strength of the structure was significantly improved, which proved its great advantages during the battles in the Pacific Ocean. In addition, for the first time in the US Navy, the 203-mm main artillery was used in real turrets. They also took care of the maximum possible speed. Undoubtedly, the ships of this class were very successful units, able to compete with their Japanese counterparts without problems. USS New Orleans (CA-32) was in it when the Japanese attacked the base at Pearl Harbor (December 7, 1941), but suffered minor damage. In May and June 1942, the ship participated in battles in the Coral Sea and for Midway. After these battles, he was sent to the Mariana Islands and the island of Guadalcanal. Here, in November 1942, it took part in the Battle of Tassafaronga, sustaining very serious injuries, which prevented it from operating until the second half of 1943. In early 1944, the unit supported American operations in the Kwajalein area, and in June 1944 .that year - covered the Saipan Landing. Shortly thereafter, she took part in the Battle of the Philippine Sea. USS New Orleans was decommissioned in 1947 and sold for scrap in 1959. Paints and glue are not included.
