Submarine type XXVIB "Seal" (early) Seehund ("Seal") was the most effective of the German small submarines. The XXVIB project was developed in the spring of 1944. Serial production was established at Schichau Werk in Elbing and Germania Werft in Kiel. By the end of the war, 285 units were built. Since January 1945, they took an active part in hostilities. Small-liter submarines Seehund served in 312 K-Flottilla, based in Ijmeiden (Holland). They carried out 142 combat actions and sank 9 allied ships. After the end of the war, 4 Seehund submarines served in the French Navy until 1956.
