SU-76 is a Soviet self-propelled installation of the Second World War. The first prototypes of this machine were built in 1942, and serial production lasted from 1942 to 1945. In the process, about 14,000 machines of this type were created. The combat weight of this self-propelled gun in the basic version was up to 10.2 tons. The drive was provided by two coupled GAZ-202 engines with a capacity of 70 horsepower each. The machine's armament consisted of a 76.2-mm ZIS-3 gun. The SU-76 self-propelled gun was developed on the basis of the T-70 light tank. Initially, it was assumed that the SU-76 would be a tank destroyer, but in the practice of the Eastern Front, it was very often used to support its own infantry in the defense and offensive with direct and indirect fire. Although it was developed relatively quickly, if not hastily, it proved to be a very successful weapon, relatively cheap to manufacture and easy to use. The main modification of the SU-76 was the machine designated SU-76M (SU-15), in which reliability was increased, one gearbox was used for the operation of both engines, and the level of vibration in the machine was significantly reduced. SU-76 machines were widely used during hostilities on the Eastern Front, as well as - on a smaller scale - during the Korean War (1950-1953) by the armed forces of North Korea.
