Assembled model 1/72 attack aircraft A-1H Skyraider Hobby 2000 72062 The Douglas A-1 Skyraider (formerly AD-1) was an American attack aircraft that was in service from 1946 to the mid-1970s. It was one of the last piston-powered aircraft to be used in combat in the world. Over the years of service, numerous versions of the aircraft were created, adapted in particular for close-up or early warning. The first prototype flew in March 1945, but mass production began after the end of World War II. The aircraft performed admirably during the Korean War, carrying out numerous successful attacks on North Korean ground targets. A-1 aircraft also participated in the Vietnam conflict, where they suffered relatively heavy losses. The aircraft was produced in seven main versions (from D-1 to AD-7), which differed from each other by more and more powerful engines and improved airframe design. The basic versions were also modified and adapted to more specialized tasks, leading to a dozen diversions, the most interesting of which are the AD-3W (early warning aircraft), the AD-4B (tactical bomber adapted to carry nuclear weapons) or the AD-4S (aircraft ZOP). The A-1 aircraft and its numerous versions were exported, in particular. to France, Great Britain and South Vietnam. Technical data (for version A-1): Maximum speed: 520 km / h; practical ceiling: 8,660 m, range: 2,115 km, fixed armament: 2 20 mm M20 guns and an outboard weapon weighing from 2,900 kg to 4,500 kg.
