The first prototypes were built in 1994, but serial production began only in 2008. It is estimated that about 200 sets of the system have been built so far, and the unit price of this system (in the export version) is around $13.15. 14.7 million in 2011 prices. The production of the kit is carried out by the YuMZ factories in Ulyanovsk. The Pantsir-S1 complex is a missile-artillery system consisting of two 30-mm double-barreled 2A83 automatic guns and 12 57E6 or 57E6E anti-aircraft missile launchers. The set is designed to fight air targets in the form of airplanes, helicopters or tactical missiles at short and medium distances. It is assumed that "Pantsir-S1" is a very far-reaching development of the 2K22 "Tunguska" system. Usually, the kit is installed on a wheeled chassis, and then the wheeled transporter is used by KAMAZ-6560, BAZ-6909 or MAN SX45 trucks adapted to it. In the case of using a tracked chassis, the ГМ-352М1Е machine is used. The kit was used by government forces in Syria during the Syrian civil war since March 2011, as well as during operations in Donbas (since April 2014).
