The IS-5 is a Soviet heavy tank of the Cold War era. The first prototypes of this car appeared at the turn of 1948/1949, and a small batch of these cars, probably consisting of about 10 units, was created in 1950. However, the car never went into mass production. The drive was provided by one V-12 engine with a capacity of 700 hp. The main armament consisted of a 122-mm D-25TA gun, and the auxiliary one consisted of 1-2 machine guns. The IS-5 car was developed at the Chelyabinsk plant by a group of engineers under the leadership of Joseph Yakovlevich Kotin and was actually a deep modernization of the IS-4, which, in turn, was based on the IS-2M3. Compared to its predecessor, it had improved booking, a changed shape of the tower and its lowered profile. It is likely that a new type of suspension was also tested on it, but this data is not reliable. however, it is almost certain that the pre-production IS-5 cars had the same suspension as the IS-4. In the end, however, the IS-5 did not enter serial production and was only a stage in the development of the IS-2 family of tanks.
