The Supacat Jackal is a modern British reconnaissance vehicle. The first prototypes were built in the early 21st century, and the vehicle entered service with the British Army in 2008. In total, about 600 copies of this vehicle have been produced to date. The basic version of the Supacat Jackal is equipped with a Cummins ISBE Euro3 engine with a capacity of 185 hp. The vehicle is armed with one 7.62 mm L7A2 machine gun and one 12.7 mm L7A1 machine gun or a 40 mm GMU automatic grenade launcher.
The Supacat Jackal was created in response to the needs of the British Army in a new wheeled reconnaissance vehicle at the beginning of the 21st century. When designing the Jackal vehicle, special emphasis was placed on the most powerful armament with small-caliber weapons, high mobility and maneuverability. Two versions of this vehicle have been created so far, the first - Jackal 1 - has weak armor and is the first serial production vehicle. The second version - Jackal 2 - has a reinforced chassis, providing better protection against mine explosions and so-called land mines, a more powerful engine and an enlarged fighting compartment. Jackal vehicles were used in combat operations in Afghanistan. They also did not reach any foreign recipients - their only user is the British army.
