M-ATV was developed by Oshkosh Corporation in 2008 for the US armed forces, which were looking for a new light all-terrain vehicle for their infantry units operating in Afghanistan. M-ATV replaced the M1113 HMMWV vehicles in the line. The new vehicle was developed taking into account the maximum possible mobility and ensuring the crew a high level of safety from so-called land mines. Finally, M-ATV was developed on a modified chassis of the MTVR truck and is able to withstand a mine or so-called. 10 kg of TNT. Its design was based on the experience of operating vehicles such as the Cougar. The vehicle also has good performance, especially its maximum speed and long range. During production, several variants of this vehicle were created, such as the M-ATV Command (command vehicle with extensive electronic and communications equipment), the M-ATV Utility (transport vehicle) or the M-ATV Special Process (vehicle adapted for the needs of special forces). M-ATVs have been or are being used by the armed forces of several countries, including Croatia, Portugal, Poland and Saudi Arabia.
