The M6A1 Heavy Tank was an American heavy tank developed during World War II, distinguished by its unusual dual main armament in the turret: a 76 mm M7 gun and a 37 mm M6 gun, mounted side by side.
This tank was created in response to the US Army's need for a heavy armored vehicle. It had significant armor (up to 101 mm in the frontal part of the hull and turret) and was equipped with a powerful Wright G-200 radial engine. However, despite its "heavy" classification and powerful armament, the M6A1 never saw combat. Its large size, high silhouette, complex internal structure, and logistical difficulties associated with its weight led to it being considered obsolete and production was discontinued. Only a limited number of these tanks were produced (about 40-43 units of various modifications), which were used mainly for testing and training.
