The Oshkosh M1070 is an American heavy military tractor unit designed primarily for transporting tanks. Production of the vehicle began in 1992 and continues to this day. The truck is powered by a single Detroit Diesel or Caterpillar engine, delivering either 500 or 700 hp. The tractor measures 9.09 meters in length and 2.59 meters in width. Its top speed ranges from 72 to 81 km/h. The Oshkosh M1070 was developed to meet the needs of the US Armed Forces, which, in the late 1980s, sought a new wheeled transporter for M1 Abrams main battle tanks. The base version is the M1070A0 model, of which approximately 2,500 units were delivered to the US Army. Orders for the modernized version (M1070A1) began in 2011. An M1070F variant was also developed and is currently in service with the British Army. In 2008, the Global HET version was released, aimed primarily at export markets. Oshkosh M1070 vehicles were deployed during operations in Afghanistan following 2001 and during the 2003 Iraq War.
