Titanic was a British ocean liner built for the White Star Line. It was launched on 30 May 1911 at the Harland and Wolff shipyard. The Titanic, which was called a marvel of naval engineering, was believed to be unsinkable. This legend was proven false during its maiden voyage when the liner struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sank with approximately 1,500 people on board on the night of 14–15 April 1912. It was one of the most spectacular maritime disasters of the 20th century.
